A few years ago I created a Facebook Page called
Phil Dunphy Quotes. I really like the TV show Modern Family and Phil Dunphy is an amazing character. There are a bunch of funny quotes from Phil on the show that I thought other people would like so I created the Page with the hopes of sharing some of that great content with other people.
I created the Page, put up a few posts with quotes from Phil, and then sort of forgot about it. A few months went by and I was sitting at the airport when I got a text from my buddy Logan Thompson asking, "do you own the Phil Dunphy Quotes Facebook Page?" I thought it was odd that Logan would find my Page, but assumed he knew it was mine from a few of the links I had posted.
I opened up my laptop and went to the Phil page. It had over 140,000 Likes! WHAT?!?!?!?!!?
At first I assumed that the vast majority of the Likes were from bots or something. It didn't really make sense. How had a Facebook Page with literally 6 posts on it gotten that many Likes without me having even looked at it in months?
I posted a Phil quote to see how much engagement it would get. Like I said, I assumed all the Likes were bots so I didn't expect to get much engagement at all. Well, within a few minutes my new post had gotten over 1,000 Likes and several comments. The users were real!
Within a few days of starting to post on the Phil Dunphy Quotes page again I had a post go viral.
