Recipe for 1,000+ Retweets on Twitter

Published: Mon, 05/04/15

Hello,

Yesterday, I had a tweet get over 1,000 retweets and I thought I'd share my recipe for getting retweets.

To be clear, this wasn't a fluke. Over the past 28 days, the account I'm going to show has gotten over 26,500 retweets. However, this tweet received above average engagement. Let's breakdown why...
1) Always include a photo with your tweet. Photos get MUCH higher engagement than text.

2) Try to incorporate current events and trends into your tweets. This isn't always possible and is definitely not always necessary, but if you can do it, it will help get more engagement. The Mayweather vs Pacquiao boxing match Saturday night was "the fight of the century" (although most people probably disagree now that it's over) and got a ton of media attention.

3) Make sure you're using your niche to incorporate the current event or trend. I could have tweeted something about the Mayweather fight not relating it to my niche and it probably would have gotten a little attention, but nothing like what I've done above. Why is your audience following you? Keep that in mind with every tweet so you don't push them away.
